Naphthalene

Naphthalene was used as a fuel, before WWII, and race car drivers used it to boost octane by adding 5 mothballs to every gallon of fuel. That amount caused the engine to carbonize. Today, many are using it to get better mileage out of gasoline and diesel engines. Some have reported fantastic gains up to 96% in V8 engines.

Old Fashioned Moth Balls are 99.5% pure Naphthalene. That is the only type of mothball that works. You can get them at Walgreen Drugs stores, Wal-mart, etc. A friend told me they are illegal in Europe.

It can take a mothball an hour or more to dissolve in your tank. Some people crush them up first. In cooler weather, it will take longer; take this into consideration in order to prevent a buildup in your tank.

In case you are wondering, your gasoline already contains 1% Naphthalene.

Oh, the gas pills you hear about - Naphthalene :)

As an Additive:

  • Add 1 Naphthalene mothball to 4 gallons of gasoline or diesel fuel. (5ml each or 1 teaspoon)

  • Add 2 mothballs to 8 gallons.

  • Add 3 mothballs to 12 gallons

  • Add no more than 5 to 20 gallons.

Adding Naphthalene to your fuel boosts the octane rating, makes a smoother burn and allows you to utilize advanced ignition timing.

If you use too many mothballs, you risk burning the protective oil away from your cylinder walls. This will cause the rings to bind and wear the walls. You could consider adding a lubricant to your fuel.

USE 5W-40 FULL SYNTHETIC OIL WITH NAPHTHALENE

Any 5W-40 or 5W-30 Full Synthetic oil may be combined with the above additives in the gasoline tank. Of course this combination has succeeded in boosting mileage and reducing emissions. The big advantage of adding the right oil to the mix is it turns your gasoline or diesel fuel into a nice lubricant and works wonders for emissions. This is wonderful for the life of your engine and reduces ring friction to near zero and gives perfect ring seal. This mix also protects your expensive diesel injectors from damage with running ULS diesel fuel. Synthetics are very different from petroleum based oil. It is not often that synthetics are suggested, except when it is the best choice in certain applications. Use 1 oz. per 10 gals.

I can not find the supporting information for using this as an additive.
However, I did find the following:

FINAL NAPHTHALENE RESULTS (mothballs)

The total trip for all hwy and in-town driving, including driving around today(10 days), was 1882 miles. She pumped a total of 63.8 gallons of gas. Total average mpg 29.49.

WOW!!!! It basically is a fluctuating number though. This has got to be due to all sorts driving variables. Basically the van is getting between 25 and 31.5 mpg. This is great compared to my 15 in-town and 18 hwy mpg's.

The van is running great. The truck too.

I'm ready to hear some of your other tricks.

Thanks

----Gregg
